If you’re going to do business on the Internet, there are a few things you must do before you start. You must protect yourself and you must protect your computer. Protecting yourself is actually very easy; there are many programs out there that will look after your identity. Life Lock is one of them, they will monitor your credit and report any activity that occurs in your name and they guaranty it. You need Anti-virus software installed on your computer. As you surf the Internet, you will come across some very bad people they call hackers. They will try to steal your information and/or infect your computer that will destroy your computer. I personally use Norton 360 which has done a fantastic job at preventing attacks on my computer. It will also identify bad websites before it will let me load it up on my browser. If the host site try’s to attack my computer, Norton will stop them cold.

Once you have protected yourself you should start thinking about what you want to do. Do you really need a website? What are you going to do with a website? Are you going to sell a product(s) or some information? Or are you going to give away free stuff? Are you going to fill a need that people will want or need? Take a piece of paper and try to answer these questions as best you can. If you have an idea then start writing about it, create an outline with all the different aspects or features of your idea. Once you have created the outline go to any of the bulleted items and write a few things down. I have found that I will write a little bit at first, I will then move on to another item and write a little bit about it. Sometimes while I am writing about one thing I will come up with more material about one of the other items in my outline. So I will go back to that item and write some more. Before you know it you will have create great content for your website. It would also be a good idea to write your content in a text document so that when it comes time to build your website all you have to do is copy and paste.

If you are going to build a website you will need to choose a URL. ”A uniform resource locator (URL) (example: “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page”) is a reference to a resource that specifies the location of the resource on a computer network and a mechanism for retrieving it. A URL is a specific type of uniform resource identifier (URI). Although many people use the two terms interchangeably. A URL implies the means to access an indicated resource, which is not true of every URI. URLs occur most commonly to reference web pages (http), but are also used for file transfer (ftp), email (mailto), database access (JDBC), and many other applications.” (Wikipedia) There are several place to get your URL, GoDaddy is one place that will let you check if your URL that you want is available. I personally use GoDaddy because of the support that they give you. They will also host up to 5 pages for you and give you a website builder to make your pages. They do have some training that will help you with this but it could be better. They only teach you about how to use the website builder not how to build a website.

If you do not want to use the URL registrar to host your site, you can direct your URL to any other host on the Internet. I personally use Wealthy Affiliate to host all of my websites. I would say that if you already know how to make a website then you may not need Wealthy Affiliate; however that would not be true. Even seasoned marketers can use Wealthy Affiliate let alone a person with no experience. Wealthy Affiliate can and will train you in every aspect of building a website. Wealthy Affiliate is the most unique community on the Internet with over 300 thousand members from which you will create your own network. You will use this network to ask questions and get your answers. There are hundreds of blogs that cover just about everything, video tutorial along with community discussions.
